Become an Advocate for the Aging Population: Change perceptions and stereotypes around aging

Aging Services is an introductory course designed for individuals looking to better support and understand our rapidly growing aging population. This course explores support systems, services, and policy considerations designed to meet the needs of older adults.

This 8 week, self-paced online course encompasses topics such as the physical and mental changes associated with aging, common health issues affecting seniors and the older population, and effective communication strategies for senior engagement and inclusion. As a participant in this course, you will gain insight into senior care, advocacy, and the psychological aspects of senior enrichment and well-being within the aging population. Whether you’re a healthcare professional, a family member, or someone interested in working in the field, this course is a valuable starting point for all.

Upon completion of the Aging Services course through MSU Denver, students will:

Adeptly recognize characteristics of the aging population, analyze changes within the aging demographic, describe shifts in population aging, recognize stereotypes and myths surrounding ageism, investigate common health disparities, evaluate elder care programs and services, and explore workforce development and career options. Students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide effective support to aging adults, enabling them to age with grace and maintain a high quality of life. Additionally, students will gain insights into mental health for older adults and the crucial role of a senior care advocate. 

This introductory online course serves as an ideal starting point for those eager to pursue careers caregiving for our aging population, senior psychology, or are aiming to become more compassionate elder caregivers dedicated to improving the overall quality of life for the elders and the aging population.
