Math Lab Tutoring

The department offers tutoring for Mathematics and Statistics in our Math Lab: Science building, room 1046 (SI 1046). This semester we will also offer a few hours per week of remote tutoring via DISCORD to support students who aren’t able to come to campus. Drop in to work on your homework during the scheduled hours below and our tutors on duty will help you as needed.

Our department tutors are students majoring in Mathematics and/or Statistics. To qualify as a tutor for the department, students must have a cumulative GPA in the major of at least 3.00 and must have completed Calculus II or Probability and Statistics.

Tutors usually begin working the second week of classes.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics keeps this list only as a courtesy to students, but we as a department do not provide individual recommendations. Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a free academic assistance program offered to students in some difficult math courses.  SI is not a remedial addition to the course, nor a punitive measure, but rather a chance for students to get some extra practice on typical problems, ask questions, compare notes, and start preparing for exams.  Your SI Leader will be available to answer questions, clarify course material, and assist with some of the more challenging aspects of this difficult course.

The primary goal of the SI program is to improve student grades in historically difficult courses.  It has been seen over the past years that SI pays off with higher pass rates for those students who attend and use the time to their advantage.  SI is free and does not require registration. Simply show up on a regular basis with your course materials and questions.

SI Sessions are open to all students enrolled in MTH 1110/1111 College Algebra for Calculus, MTH 1210 Intro to Statistics, MTH 1410 Calculus I, and MTH 2410 Calculus II

Supplement Academic Instruction (SAI) for MTH 1320: Calculus for Management and Social Sciences

Supplemental Academic Instruction (SAI) is a free academic assistance program offered to all students in MTH 1320, Calculus for Management and Social Sciences (Business Calculus).

SAI is a chance for students to get some extra practice on typical problems, ask questions, compare notes, and start preparing for exams.  Your SAI Instructor will be available to answer questions, clarify course material, and assist with some of the more challenging aspects of this difficult course.

SAI for MTH 1320 is for any students enrolled in MTH 1320, and, especially, for students who passed MTH 1310 with a C. Students with a previous C in MTH 1310 have historically been more vulnerable in MTH 1320. Over the past several years, 60% of students in this group had to retake MTH 1320 at least once.

Attending SAI regularly can significantly increase your chances of passing MTH 1320 on the first attempt!
